CONTROLS ENGINEER/PLC PROGRAMMER  - Taunton, Mass

This position involves programming & configuration of Allen-Bradley PLC-5, SLC, Control Logix, Compact Logix and Micro Logix.  Many of the programs will need to be uploaded and tested on customer sites. As well as supporting the technical service people.

 With more than 500 equipment installations in North America, travel is anticipated to be 60-70%.   As we are dealing with the food chain it is imperative that our equipment be up and running quickly.  This applicant must be a self-starter and comfortable working with people in trouble-shooting and problem solving situations.  Thinking on your feet and exceptional communication skills are a must.   Must be team oriented and possess a strong commitment to quality.

-Prefer a minimum of 2 years experience in field service or equipment maintenance in a related industry.

- Experience working with packaging equipment, specifically those listed above. 

- Must be capable of Allen Bradley, Compact Logix, Ethernet, Devicenet, PLC programming and trouble-shooting.

- Must be able to read mechanical blueprints and electrical schematics. 

- Electrical and mechanical knowledge required. Some lifting required.

- Prefer technical schooling in electricity, electronics or equipment maintenance of at least two years.

- This position requires 60-70% of travel.

- This position is NOT intended for HVAC professionals or appliance repair techs.

John Deere Looking for Engineers at Career Fair October 3rd


Attention engineering students....One of our alumni who works at John Deere has alerted us that a group of engineers from Deere will be attending the UF career fair on October 3rd.  If  you are potentially interested in either co-ops or full time positions with Deere they would like to speak with you. Be sure to look for them in the O'Connell Center during the UF Career Fair and identify yourselves as ABE students.

ABE Department Scholarship Apps Due!


Several scholarships are available to undergraduate students in the ABE department (all majors). Application deadline for Spring 2013 is October 15, 2012.Your application stays current for 2 semesters, so if you applied for a Fall 2012 scholarship but did not receive an award, your application will continue for Spring 2013 and you do not have to resubmit it. Turn applications in to me in room 116.
The undergraduate scholarship application can be found on the ABE website, in the‘forms’ page. Link to forms is on the left navigation menu of the ABE home page.

Each of our scholarship applications is good for a year and has a line above your signature line that asks you to indicate the one year period you are applying for (Fall/Spring or Spring/Fall) so only apply during the appropriate 1 year period you want to be considered for.

 So please DO NOT submit a new application if you submitted one in March!

Harvard: 2013 Summer program for underrepresented students in biology

Center for Causal Consequences of Variation (CCV)

2013 CCV Summer Undergraduate Research Internship Program
Harvard Medical School

The Church Lab (Department of Genetics) at Harvard Medical School is offering paid, 10-­‐week 
summer undergraduate research internships for underrepresented students interested in research
careers in genome sciences. Research Interns will participate in a variety of projects with the
Center for Causal Consequences Variation (CCV), a Center for Excellence in Genomic Science (CEGS),
focused on the development  of  cutting  edge  methods  for  genomics  that  hold  promise  for 
significantly  advancing biological and medical research. CCV is funded by the National Human
Genome Research Institute of the National Institutes of Health, and funding for these internships
is through the  Diversity  Action  Plan (formerly Minority Action Plan) of the CCV.

 The summer program provides unique opportunities to gain research experience in the following areas
of genome science research:  
•        Molecular Biology
•        Computational Biology
•        Genetics and Development
•        Cellular Biology
•        Bioinformatics
•        Biotechnology 
•        Biophysics
•        High Throughput Sequencing
•        and other areas of bioengineering and the biological sciences

By participating in CCV summer internships, students will gain a broader knowledge of genomics and
the biological  sciences,  and  experience  outstanding  scientific  research.  Research  Interns  will
 have  the opportunity to:  
•        Work closely with scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students
•        Work on a supervised independent project with a mentor
•        Attend lab meetings, analyze, and discuss recent literature related to their research
•        Attend seminars given by scientists and researchers from Harvard, MIT,  the Broad Institute, and other research institutions
•        Present research to other students, scientists, and mentors
•        Participate in academic, social, and professional development programs

Duration: 10-­‐week internships will begin in mid-­‐June 2013 (exact date TBD). All interns are
expected to devote 40 hours per week.

Housing: Undergraduate interns who are not residents of the metropolitan Boston area will receive
assistance in securing housing in the vicinity of the Medical School.

Stipend: $4,000

Eligibility: Undergraduate applicants must be enrolled in a four-­‐year degree granting college or
university.

Students who have an academic record of marked distinction and who have an interest in research
careers in the biological and genomic sciences are encouraged to apply.   Students who have
finished their sophomore or junior years, and seniors who have not yet earned the bachelor’s degree are
eligible for the summer program.  Please note that students must be either U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents (green card holder) from an underrepresented minority group.
