FLAS 2018-2019 Academic Year Fellowships
Through support from the U.S. Department of Education, the Center for
Latin American Studies offers Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS)
Academic Year Fellowships to support training in Brazilian Portuguese
and Haitian Creole.
For undergraduate students, the fellowship covers tuition and fees not already covered by other financial aid or scholarships (up to a maximum of $10,000 for the academic year) and provides a scholarship of $5000 total for the 2015-16 academic year ($2500 each for the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters).
FLAS Requirements
• Full-time UF graduate/undergraduate student
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Undergrads must have intermediate or above proficiency in Portuguese or Haitian Creole
• Each semester enroll in a minimum of 3 credits of Portuguese or Haitian Creole
• Each semester enroll in a minimum of 3 credits of Latin American area studies
•
Recipients are also required to take language proficiency exams and to
complete online reports about their fellowship on a semester basis

International Summer Research
The UF Center for Undergraduate Research, in collaboration with the UF International Center is pleased to announce that this summer it will be sponsoring a Summer Undergraduate International Research Program (SUIRP).
This program is designed for current undergraduate researchers in all disciplines to spend 8-10 weeks summer 2018 conducting research at an international institution.
Students are responsible for securing an international host before applying and then submitting a complete SUIRP application by February 14, 2018. Students are encouraged to talk with their UF research mentor and departmental administrators to identify international collaborators that may be potential hosts. Calypso Farm and Ecology Center in Fairbanks, Alaska is now accepting applications for our immersive, interdisciplinary 2018 Farmer Training Program.
Beginning Farmer's Bonus: participants who completes the entire program (including their Whole Farm Plan) are eligible for a refund of up to 50% of the program cost (materials fee excluded) at the end of the season.

2018 Regenerative Medicine Summer Internship Opportunities
The SRF Summer Scholars Program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct biomedical research to combat diseases of aging, such as cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Under the guidance of a scientific mentor, each Summer Scholar is responsible for his or her own research project in such areas as genetic engineering and stem cell research. The Program emphasizes development of both laboratory and communication skills to develop well-rounded future scientists, healthcare professionals, and policy makers. Students participating in the program will hone their writing skills via writing assignments, which are designed to emulate text scientists commonly must produce. At the end of the summer, students will have the opportunity to put all of their newly developed communication skills into practice at a student symposium.

Job Summary:
This internship will expose the candidate to a myriad of projects and tasks ranging from data interpretation, data QA/QC, ArcMap construction, light statistics, literature review and research, and some opportunity for field data collection. Intern will work with software programs including: Excel, Access, ArcMap, PowerPoint, and Basecamp. Proficiency in software’s is not required, but familiarity is preferred. The internship will be for a period of 16 weeks, two 9-hour days per week. The two days are optional from Monday-Thursday (flexibility every other Friday is also available) from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.
