The UF Animal Science Beef Units have open positions for student employees. The most pressing need is for weekend help at the Santa Fe Unit. Housing is available for up to two students at this location. Residing on the unit is preferable, but not absolutely necessary. They could use one or two more students at the Beef Research Unit. Housing is available there as well.
We would prefer students with at least some background in livestock handling and/or equipment operation. Students must be willing to work hard and work at least alternating weekends and some holidays.
Typically, students will work a portion of their of hours for free to cover room and board at the unit, and then a portion will be paid. The logistics of this typically depend on the number of students working at each unit and the number that end up living at the units as well.
The specifics of pay and rooming will need to be discussed in detail with the Unit Manager, Danny Driver, and the students applying. Students will have lots of opportunities to gain experience working in farm and ranch operations, including fence construction and repair, haymaking, cattle feeding, calving, pasture maintenance, and equipment operation among other things.
