During the spring semester, students will have the opportunity to learn
skills and methods to effectively communicate agricultural and life
sciences issues to policymakers. This special section of AEC 3065:
Issues in Agricultural and Life Sciences (and will be co-taught as a
graduate student course) will help students equip themselves with the
tools needed to communicate with policymakers and influencers. Students
will spend a day in Tallahassee prior to the start of the 2019
legislative session to meet with agricultural lobbyists, state agencies
and departments, and policymakers. From March 2-6 (during UF’s spring
break), students will travel to Washington, DC to meet with
policymakers, lobbyists from national agricultural organizations, and
agency heads.
Dr. Lisa Lundy has created a narrated PowerPoint presentation to answer questions you may have: https://ufl.voicethread.com/share/11547927/ I’ve also attached a DRAFT SYLLABUS of the course.
If you have an interest in policy, lobbying, or political office, this
is one class you won’t want to miss. More details are provided on the
AEC website: https://aec.ifas.ufl.edu/undergraduate/study-abroad/.
If you are an off-campus student, we are considering holding our Friday
morning sessions via Zoom so that you can take the course. Since the
course is one of the ones that is departmentally controlled, you will
need to contact BECKY TRAMMELL if you are interested in the course. We
can accommodate only 20 students total, so please let her know as soon
as possible if you want her to register you for the course when
pre-registration opens.
