Summer internships with the UF/IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station are a great opportunity for undergraduates to get field and lab experience in natural resource fields. CALS students from all units are encouraged to apply. The deadline for applications is March 1. The 2018 project options are listed with the application link here.

2018-2019 University Scholars Program Application Open
Applications are due to the CALS Dean’s office by Feb. 9. Students should complete the University Scholars’ Program Application here and submit to the Dean's office.
Undergraduate students from any college who wish to conduct research with a faculty member in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences are eligible to compete for this award although preference is given to students in the college working with faculty in CALS.
A total of 20 awards will be given to students with CALS faculty mentors. A CALS student who wishes to work with a faculty member in a college outside of CALS, MUST apply in the college of the faculty and not in CALS. Each award is a $1,750 student stipend for the supervised research, disbursed in two payments (Sept and May). The faculty mentor will also receive $500 that can be used for travel or other research-related needs.
The college will choose the student research projects from all applications submitted based on the following criteria: sound background and justification, clear objective(s), and sound methodology and approach. Students and faculty mentors will be notified of their selection at the end of February.

2018 Packaging Jamboree Invite - Michigan State University (April 5th-7th)
The 2018 Packaging Jamboree is hosted by The School of Packaging at Michigan State University on April 5 - 7, 2018. The Packaging Jamboree is an annual conference that rotates between universities around the United States that have Packaging programs. It is a three-day, student-led event filled with educational, networking and professional development opportunities for students and industry professionals. The theme chosen for this year is “Innovation in the Packaging Industry.”

PMMI Student Packaging Scholarships: Applications open
As a PMMI (Association for Packaging & Processing Technologies) partner school University of Florida’s students are eligible to apply for PMMI scholarships.
Each year the PMMI Foundation provides over $200,000 in scholarships to students attending PMMI Partner Schools. This year we have transitioned to an application submission from students opposed to the schools and/or foundations applying for funding.

NSF- Engineering Research Center’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program
May 30 – August 3, 2018

The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Engineering Research Center’s Center for Biorenewable Chemicals (CBiRC) will host REU students who will work toward achieving CBiRC’s core mission of transforming the US chemical industry by integrating biological and chemical catalysis systems to produce biorenewable chemicals. The REU students will work in CBiRC labs conducting fundamental research to address the underlying technical challenges in the development of new integrated catalytic systems for the conversion of bio-based feedstocks to industrial chemicals.
REU’s will work in multiple areas (see here for more details), and will conduct hands-on research in state-of-the-art facilities. They will also have opportunities to participate in seminars and workshops, partake in group social activities, and present their work at a university-wide closing poster session.
This year’s program runs from May 30-August 3.
ELIGIBILITY
Undergraduate students majoring in science or engineering (at least one semester of school left after program)
U.S. Citizens or permanent resident
Minorities and women strongly encouraged to apply
Available to be on the ISU campus at start of program and at end. (Sorry, we cannot accommodate students who cannot make those key dates.)
AWARD
$4,500 stipend
Travel allowance
Room and board
Application deadline is February 28. Selections will be based on a combination of research interests, academic qualifications, and faculty recommendations. All materials, including faculty recommendations must be received by February 28. Admission decisions will be made by late-April.
