The Balanced Man Scholarship (BMS) recognizes students who exhibit academic excellence, demonstrate leadership skills and commit to their health and well-being.
The ancient Greeks believed in developing a sound mind and a sound body as the way to live a fulfilling life. SigEp adopted this philosophy with the Balanced Man Ideal and since 1990 has awarded the Balanced Man Scholarship to some of the best students on-campus. We believe that recognizing students who exhibit balance and all-around excellence is one way to promote this important ideal.

Courses - summer computing for non-majors
The Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering has just opened two courses for non-majors for Summer 2019: COP 2800 Programming Using Java and COP 3275 Programming in C. Details below.
COP 2800 Computer Programming Using JAVA - 3 Credits (course number 16831)
In-depth treatment of computer programming using JAVA. Problems related to a variety of disciplines are solved. Introduces the basic concepts of software and hardware; develop a variety of stand-alone applications and applets. For non-CISE majors only.
Prereq: MAC 1147 or the equivalent.

Internship with Rose Petals Nursery
We are interested in at least one intern and possibly two with varying responsibilities within the nursery. In three words a description would be General Nursery Help. The position(s) are available to begin immediately.
We are a specialty rose nursery offering heritage roses, including species, antique and old garden roses. Our collection exceeds 1k varieties. We are growers, retailers, mail order nursery along with having a venue where we host presentations and garden parties. We have two locations within a 6 mile radius where the interns may be asked to work. Both positions would not exceed 20 hrs. a week.
The primary reason for the internship would be to maintain the stock at our retail location at 16918 SW 15th Ave., Newberry, FL 32669 (which is really Jonesville). However, we have so many other facets that need attention at both locations.
We pay a fair hourly wage and give the intern the ability to be flexible in their work schedule after the initial introduction of responsibilities and "how to's". We are a no-spray nursery. All of the work would be out of doors. Restrooms are located in both locations. The internship could result in a regular part time position. Honesty, integrity and a commitment to our passion of growing rare and in many cases endangered roses is needed. Anything less is simply not an option. Washington DC Gator Club Summer 2019 Internship Scholarship Application Open! Deadline: May 12, 2019
The Washington, D.C. Gator Club is proud to offer four $1,000 scholarships to University of Florida undergraduate or graduate students participating in an internship in the greater Washington, D.C. area for the Summer 2019 semester. Scholarships will be awarded to the top students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, community involvement, professional promise and a strong commitment to the Gator Nation. Preference will be given to those with unpaid internships and who demonstrate financial need. These scholarships are made possible by general DC Gator Club funds to support students participating in internships in Washington, D.C. The candidates we seek must be skilled in the Microsoft program applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and must have skills in using a multi-line phone. The applicant must have good organizational skills and the ability to learn new processes and different functions of the department. We are looking for someone who works well with others, is a self-starter, and is motivated to do the best job possible.
The department is considering hiring two interns:
Internship Opportunity #1:
The position requires providing high-level administrative support by conducting energy related research, preparing reports, handling information requests, assisting constituents, and performing administrative and clerical functions related to program management. Experience and knowledge of the energy industry is preferred. This opportunity is open to all majors.
Internship Opportunity #2:
The position requires familiarity with power and energy, power systems analysis, circuits, power electronics, renewable energy, microgrids, and smart grids.
Technical experience in one or more of the following is preferred:
electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering;
computer science or scientific computing; or
law or economics with a focus on energy.
Preferred skills, experience, or coursework includes:
MATLAB/Simulink
Other programming skills (e.g. C, C++, Python, Java)
Time-series analysis, plotting/visualizing data, probability and statistics
Creative abilities to help produce videos or web-content for education and dissemination of results.
This position will assist the department with the Florida Alliance for Accelerating Solar plus Storage Technology Readiness project. More information can be found at: www.faasster.org.

Field & Fork Internships available
Students, there are a series of internship positions (as well as work-study and volunteer positions) available with Field & Fork for Fall 2019! Contact Robin Snyder if you'd like the application.

1. Compost: Hone and manage an efficient composting process on-site to feed farm soils.
2. Harvest: Oversee harvest, post-harvest processing, and delivery to Alan and Cathy Hitchcock Pantry.
3. Gleaning: Hone and pilot-test a cutting-edge gleaning program for reducing food waste.
4. Propagation: Held establish and manage a greenhouse to grow seedlings for the farm.
5. Outreach: Develop and conduct an engaging and fun social media and outreach campaign.
6. LA Urban Farms: Work with industry partners to manage vertical grow towers around campus.
7. Nutrition: Assist with cooking classes and nutrition education programming for students and staff.
