The Technical Agronomist will oversee all technical aspects of the agronomic program for the company, including total responsibility for the vision and implementation of the precision agriculture program and the introduction of new software and services that improve profitability and efficiency at the farm level. The Technical Agronomist will also participate in routine agronomic work across a wide crop base in all growing regions across North America.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Lead, plan, manage, and drive the precision agriculture activities of the company in an effort to maximize the value and operational excellence of the existing agricultural portfolio.
2. Collect data by communicating with farmers, suppliers, and labs, and use GIS systems to generate reports, recommendations, and electronic files used in precision agriculture applications.
3. Analyze precision agriculture performance data on a farm-by-farm basis, including financial interpretations, and make recommendations concerning the suitability of specific precision agriculture technologies for each crop and production region.
4. Remain current on technological advances in agriculture and work to introduce new technologies on the farm including new equipment, software, services, and products that have the potential to increase profitability and efficiency of farming operations.
5. Develop and maintain a company-wide, web-based record-keeping system for recording crop inputs, yields, and other field data.
6. Develop computer-based systems that link agricultural operations to other internal efforts (e.g., Food Safety, Agricultural Sustainability, Environmental Stewardship) and departments (e.g., Accounting, Legal, Corporate).
7. Assist the Senior Agronomist in supporting the activities of all production regions through planning, problem solving, and routine agronomic work.
8. Support, educate, and train company representatives to ensure successful adoption of new technologies, methods, services, and products on the farm.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or related field with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant precision agriculture experience required. Must have working knowledge of soils, fertilizers, weeds, insects and plant pathogens of agronomic importance. Preference will be given to candidates that have expertise with corn, cotton, rice, and/or soybeans. Position requires less than 50% travel.
