A NEW NAME AND EXPANDED FOCUS FOR THE SUMMER HEALTH PROFESSIONS EDUCATION PROGRAM
This 6-wk summer program is free and aims to expand horizons for racially, ethnically, and/or economically/educationally disadvantaged freshman and sophomore US citizens, permanent residents, or with DACA status, and a minimum 2.5 GPA. The program is designed to academically enrich, provide exposure to the various healthcare professions, and facilitate career development opportunities in the early formative college years.
Interested qualified students with interest in any of the healthcare professions – medicine/PA, nursing, pharmacy, public health and other health professions (PT, OT, etc), dental, vet med – should be encouraged to apply.
Applications are open now. The national website at www.shpep.org provides necessary details and is the location where students should be sent to read more and apply. Applicants are asked to select and prioritize (3) schools of interest. Early Application Deadline is Feb 1 and Final Application Deadline Mar 1. The University of Florida has all (6) Health Science Colleges participating and may be the only school with Veterinary Medicine and PA Medicine representation. SHPEP dates at UF will be May 22 – June 30, 2017.
