Sustainable Water Management Research Unit at the Alluvial Aquifer Water Research Center

A new water research center is being developed by the Agricultural Research Service (USDA) in cooperation with Mississippi State University Delta Research and Extension Center (MSU-DREC) in Stoneville, MS. The new Alluvial Aquifer Water Research Center will be staffed by at least four MSU scientists and seven ARS scientists. This interdisciplinary group will address regional agricultural concerns and are strongly supported by active stakeholder groups including the Delta Council.

To fill its research cadre ARS plans to soon recruit the following positions, with one of the listed discipline below serving as the research leader of the ARS unit at the Alluvial Aquifer Water Research Center:
  • Agricultural Engineer: Surface water and surface to groundwater interactions
  • Plant Physiologist: Plant/crop water relations and sensing of water and soil fertility stress at the field and management zone scale.
  • Soil Scientist: Specialized expertise in soil physics to assess management impacts on soil physical processes and soil-water relationships.
