Undergraduate Summer Research Program in Computational Biology

We are pleased to announce the 12th summer for our REU program in computational biology and would hope that you would also be willing to recommend another student(s) for our program this year. Student Support: $6000 stipend, meals*, housing*, and computer/virtual reality equipment*

C&E Farms is a family owned and operated company, specializing in fresh market green beans. Our innovation has allowed us to become the largest grower-packer-shipper of fresh green beans, on the East Coast. Growing regions include Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. The position of Field Operations Manager is a dynamic job, which provides a rewarding experience, along with the opportunity to travel and see different places. The Field Operations Manager is responsible for determining harvest dates and yield estimates. They assist in planning planting schedules, coordinate harvesting and logistics of field trucks and oversee the completion of farm food safety procedures, policies and documentation. Communication and coordination with packing facility and sales personnel, as well as field scout, is essential. Applicants should have general knowledge of vegetable production as well as knowledge in pest management.

The Department of Defense's X-Force program is now accepting applications for technologists and entrepreneurs to serve their country by solving real-world national security problems in collaboration with the U.S. military. Interested individuals may apply now through December 31, 2020.

X-Force participants will engage with Department of Defense (DoD) partners for three months of applied problem solving. Participants will work on problems sponsored by their DoD hosts potentially including:

  • Technical (e.g. software development, data analytics, mechanical design/prototyping
  • Strategy (e.g. communications and social media strategy
  • Research (e.g. emerging technology scouting) projects

Participants will be expected to deliver a prototype capability to their military sponsors by the end of the program.

The full-time X-Force Fellows will be paid a stipend of around $2,500 per month and have a small budget for travel, materials, and other expenses related to the delivery of a product to their sponsor.

New AI Course in Spring 2021

Want to learn the basics of Artificial Intelligence? Register now!

We are pleased to announce a new, introductory, 1-hour course for Spring 2021, Frontiers of Artificial Intelligence (EGN 1935, section FOAI, class number 31730). In this course, you will learn what artificial intelligence (AI) is (from a high-level, conceptual standpoint) and how it is used to solve real-world problems in a wide variety of disciplines. This course will give you a broad overview of how AI technologies are transforming science, art, medicine, business, and more, and it will equip you to think about how AI might be applied to your own areas of interest. This course is intended for students from any major/discipline, and you do not need to have previous AI or technical expertise. Most class sessions will feature guest lectures from top AI researchers at UF who apply AI in their field. Class will meet online during 7th period on Tuesdays, from 1:55 PM to 2:45 PM. Study abroad in Cuba!

The application is open for UF in Cuba: Tropical Marine and Island Ecology (FAS4932/6932 - Summer A 2021). Its an amazing experience that combines learning about tropical marine and terrestrial ecology with the backdrop of AMAZING people and places! You will be fully immersed in the history, culture, ecology, and flavor of Cuba! We’ll travel from the big city of Havana to small villages, historic towns, remote mountains, and pristine seas.

The attached flyer and brochure give you the basic information and costs. We are finalizing the details of the itinerary and budget now, but it will be ~ $3,000 for the program (includes 4 credits, all accommodations, coach bus transportation, boat trips, entry fees, and meals - except for 2 dinners). Its really quite a deal considering all that we do over the two week course!

This event is open to all ASABE student and young professional members.
