There are two types of summer intern positions available within the programs seven openings. One of those positions will be focused on managing a soil bioassay lab to screen for Phytophthora at our Vero Beach Research Center. This position offers an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to sharpen their technical, interpersonal and organizational skills. This candidate will interface with a wide array of colleagues including Syngenta interns, business partners, industry leaders and Syngenta researchers. The soil bioassay lab internship is a critical component of the overall internship program.
The second type of position available is the field pest and disease scout. This position is geared toward field scouting with our key citrus growers. For the right candidate the position offers an excellent opportunity for the intern to sharpen their networking, production Agriculture experience, sales, pest ID and organizational skills with Syngenta sales reps, business partners and grower customers.
1 soil bioassay lab manager: Vero Beach Research Station
2 east coast scout: Indian River, St. Lucie, or Martin Counties
1 southwest scout: Lee, Hendry, or Collier Counties
2 west central scout- Highlands, Hardee or Desoto Counties
1 central scout- Orange, Osceola, Polk or Highlands Counties
Qualifications include:
- Seeking future employment in agriculture
- Basic familiarity with production agriculture
- Basic familiarity with insect, disease, and weed control
- Basic computer skills
- Willingness to work outdoors
- Self-motivated, detail oriented, honesty, and personable
- Ability to relocate to or originally from one of the following counties; Orange, Polk, Highlands, Hardee, Desoto, Hendry, Collier, Lee, Okeechobee, Martin, Osceola, St. Lucie, or Indian River
- Sophomore or Junior level (Seniors will be considered)
