EOPD-412 Professional Ethics Video Challenge

The ASABE EOPD-412 committee is sponsoring its first Ethics Video Challenge to highlight ethical issues faced by agricultural and biological engineers in practice or research. The purpose of the video will be to describe an issue(s) in an engaging manner so as to promote group discussion regarding the issue(s).

Resolution of the issue(s) does not need to be identified within the video itself. However at the end of the video relevant sources material used in development of the case should be cited and sources for discussion reference may be suggested. Videos are to be no more than five minutes. The contest is open to pre-professional and young professional communities. (Graduate students are considered to be part of the young professional community category) One winner from each community (IPC and YPC) will be selected to receive $1000 to be used towards registration for 2015 Annual International Meeting (AIM) held in New Orleans.

EOPD-412 is looking for case studies to be presented, so they introduce ethical scenarios, in the 2015 AIM ethics session. Selected videos will be presented and then discussed by the attendees. ASABE members can receive professional development hours (PDHs) for participating the session.

Potential themes include ethical issue(s) involving engineering design, manufacturing, practice, management, research, etc. Videos may be created by individuals or team. Teams cannot contain more than four participants. The pre-professional individuals or teams must have a faculty or industry sponsor to provide oversight on the project.

The video deadline is April 15, 2015. Entries will be submitted by posting them to YouTube and an e-mail application containing the link to Scott Mueller at scott.mueller@wi.usda.gov.
• EOPD-412 officers will evaluate the videos on criteria that include:
• relevance of the ethics issue
• clarity of presentation of the issue
• the ability to engage the audience
• quality of the video

The winners in each category will receive a $1000 grant per team to attend the 2015 AIM. Winners will be announced MAY 1, 2015.

UF Master of Agribusiness (MAB) program

The Food and Resource Economics Department is recruiting outstanding students for its one-year Master of Agribusiness (MAB) program. This degree curriculum is specifically designed for students from non-economic and non-business backgrounds. The MAB provides students the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in a changing and complex agricultural economy. Students take courses in finance, public policy, management strategies, human resource management, risk management, international marketing, decision-making, and quantitative methods. The program blends business and economics with the applied science of agriculture, providing methods for solving real-world problems. It also includes a summer internship in which the students have the opportunity to put to use the skills learned in the program.

The MAB offers students from all disciplines the opportunity to obtain the business background they need to be competitive in the workforce.

Our next class begins Summer B 2015 and we’re accepting applications as late as end of April 2015! Interested students should have the following:
  • 3.0 upper division grade point average 
  • B or better grades in the four prerequisite courses: 
    • -Principles of Microeconomics, Introductory Economics or AEB 2014 Economic Issues, Food, and You 
    • -Principles of Management, Introductory Management AEB 3133 Principles of Agribusiness Management or other Management course 
    • -Financial Accounting or AEB 3122 Financial Planning for Agribusiness 
    • -Statistics 
  • GRE score of at least 296 with at least 145 on the quantitative (or GMAT of 465)

PROS Interpretive Nature Coordinator

The PROS Interpretive Nature Coordinator must be passionate about the mission, the department, and eager to transform the community through place making, health and wellness, and conservation. The successful candidate will create and forge conservation partnerships with the community and government, increase youth engagement and volunteer participation in conservation and stewardship practices, and will serve as guide in the creation of a system of natural heritage areas (ecozones and ecohubs) that promote sustainable communities. The position will be responsible for coordinating the department’s interpretive naturalist program, managing specific nature centers/parks, and developing and implementing County-wide ecotourism programming.

Minimum Salary: $51,778.48 – Maximum Salary: $87,108.58

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree. Two years of professional or supervisory experience in developing, directing and conducting interpretive nature programs or environment protection programs to include program evaluation and monitoring are required.

The ideal candidate must have budget preparation, expenditure monitoring and marketing skills. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years. Must possess a Driver license.

2015 Pepsi Refresh Challenge: Help bring composting education to the Reitz Union

DDCSP Deadline EXTENDED! - Undergraduate Research Opportunity



The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Programs at University of Florida, University of Arizona, University of Idaho, North Carolina State University, and Cornell University have extended their application deadline! BioEnergy and Sustainability School- application deadline Monday, February 23rd, 2015

The BioEnergy and Sustainability School (BESS) provides quality research experiences for motivated undergraduate students at the University of Florida. Research experiences focus on developing critical sustainability thinking skills in a hands-on multidisciplinary environment. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, one-on-one mentoring, independent and team research projects, as well as field excursions, undergraduate interns gain practical research experiences not typically found in the undergraduate career. BESS interns contribute in meaningful ways to active research projects in the BioEnergy and Sustainable Technology Laboratory. Exposing undergraduates to such active research experiences encourages the recruitment of highly talented individuals for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research areas within the University of Florida.
