The ASABE EOPD-412 committee is sponsoring its first Ethics Video Challenge to highlight ethical issues faced by agricultural and biological engineers in practice or research. The purpose of the video will be to describe an issue(s) in an engaging manner so as to promote group discussion regarding the issue(s).
Resolution of the issue(s) does not need to be identified within the video itself. However at the end of the video relevant sources material used in development of the case should be cited and sources for discussion reference may be suggested. Videos are to be no more than five minutes. The contest is open to pre-professional and young professional communities. (Graduate students are considered to be part of the young professional community category) One winner from each community (IPC and YPC) will be selected to receive $1000 to be used towards registration for 2015 Annual International Meeting (AIM) held in New Orleans.
EOPD-412 is looking for case studies to be presented, so they introduce ethical scenarios, in the 2015 AIM ethics session. Selected videos will be presented and then discussed by the attendees. ASABE members can receive professional development hours (PDHs) for participating the session.
Potential themes include ethical issue(s) involving engineering design, manufacturing, practice, management, research, etc. Videos may be created by individuals or team. Teams cannot contain more than four participants. The pre-professional individuals or teams must have a faculty or industry sponsor to provide oversight on the project.
The video deadline is April 15, 2015. Entries will be submitted by posting them to YouTube and an e-mail application containing the link to Scott Mueller at scott.mueller@wi.usda.gov.
• EOPD-412 officers will evaluate the videos on criteria that include:
• relevance of the ethics issue
• clarity of presentation of the issue
• the ability to engage the audience
• quality of the video
The winners in each category will receive a $1000 grant per team to attend the 2015 AIM. Winners will be announced MAY 1, 2015.
