Sharps at Waterford Farm, located in Howard County, Maryland, is seeking a Greenhouse Manager In Training with a horticultural background to run our greenhouse operations. We grow custom ordered transplants, predominantly veggies, herbs and cutting garden flowers for commercial growers. We are seeking someone who is detail oriented and can manage a team of several employees. Duties include but are not limited to the following areas:
Greenhouse Work
-Managing orders from inception to delivery
-Schedule and carryout germination
-Seed using mechanical vacuum seeders
-Transplanting
-Fertilizing with injectors
-Watering schedules
-Scout for disease and insects
-Create and manage team member’s schedules and tasks assignments
Office Work
-Receiving orders
-Populating seed checklist
-Populating pending and completed customer orders, seed orders, retail sheets
Additional Work
-Assist with agro-tourism operations on the farm including hayrides, helping teach school groups
etc.
-Minor farm maintenance – trade skills are a plus
-Basic care of a limited number of farm animals (feeding, watering, etc)
Requirements
-Horticultural/agricultural education
-Minimum of 1 year greenhouse experience with a knowledge of seeding, scouting and fertilizing
-Leadership skills
-Ability to work independently and follow directions in various forms (i.e written or verbal)
-Experience with tractor/skid loader driving as well as driving a manual vehicles
-Ability to lift and carry heavy objects as customary in the horticultural industry
Compensation will be determined based on experience. Start date is mid-February 2017
Mentoring will be provided by the farm manager, Alan Sharp and support duties described above will
be provided. All applicants will be subject to a background check.
