NASA Develop-Fall Internships

Apply for 10-week paid research opportunities with the NASA DEVELOP National Program, open to current students and recent college graduates as well as transitioning/early career professionals. 

NASA DEVELOP projects focus on helping local and international communities address their environmental concerns while utilizing NASA's Earth-observing fleet of satellites. NASA DEVELOP operates at eleven locations across the country at NASA Centers and other regional locations. This is a great opportunity for participants who are interested in practical applications of remote sensing and GIS, specifically in the field of Earth Science. Participants will work with NASA scientists, partner organizations, and science advisors to learn about the use of NASA Earth science data for use in water resources, disaster management, ecological forecasting, and other applications to address environmental community concerns. Florida Climate Institute (FCI) ‘Getting to Neutral’ internship application

Join the Florida Climate Institute (FCI) to help lay the groundwork for ‘Getting to Neutral’ in the State of Florida!

We are soliciting applications for 6-8 internship positions to work under the mentorship of faculty and other experts for periods of 3-6 months this Summer and Fall to start immediately (20 hours per week; pay commensurate with experience). The FCI seeks student interns to assist with data collection and tracking for the greenhouse gas inventory and support work to evaluate potential net-zero strategies as part of a net-zero action planning effort for the State.

Responsibilities

· Work with project workgroup leads and workgroup members to complete a greenhouse gas inventory based on specific sector
· Collect data from different departments and power utility for inventory
· Create a report demonstrating key findings.
· Determine most valuable metrics for tracking state sustainability for potential integration into strategic plan.
· Recommend goals and initiatives to reduce statewide carbon emissions and achieve net-zero by 2050.
· Draft written materials like reports, plans, and recommendations.
· Other tasks as assigned.

Experience and Skills

· Must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, natural sciences, environmental policy, public administration, sustainability, or economics.
· Ability to compare, analyze, and report on data findings and trends.
· Ability to work independently and add value to their work beyond initial assignment.
· Experience with collecting and organizing data from multiple stakeholders a plus.
· Experience with greenhouse gas inventories, renewable energies and other net-zero strategies and assessments a plus.
· Ability to design visually interesting reports and graphics a plus. Samples appreciated.

Davey Forestry Job & Internship Opportunities

The first project is for alumni and new graduates. We are seeking Roaming Utility Foresters who are available to travel throughout California for a period of 3-6 months of project work (minimum commitment of 2 months required). Compensation will start at $20/Hr and additional benefits will include guaranteed Over-Time(50 Hr Weeks), hotel and subsistence per diem 7 days per week, compensated flights.

Our other project is perfect for current students who are seeking an internship experience. It is a 3 Month Summer Forestry Internship Program in Lexington, KY. This project involves identifying hazardous trees that can cause damage to the utility infrastructure there. This position will also have the additional benefit of hotel and per diems being provided.

The Florida Farm Bureau Internship Program is available to students enrolled in post-secondary education majoring in agriculture and related disciplines. Field & Fork Campus Food Program: Internships

The Field & Fork Internships are an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in food systems. You will be working in a space dedicated to production, experiential education, research, and a community effort to minimize food insecurity on campus and across Gainesville.

Leadership in Food Systems requires broad knowledge and skills, including communications, soil science, ecology, horticulture, plant pathology, nutrition, food safety, business, and social justice. Internships are for students who want to gain a deeper understanding of how these pieces fit together and connect to various careers, and how to work as a team to grow food and community sustainably.

Internship Description

The internship structure includes participating in weekly meetings with the full team, in which we read, discuss, and demonstrate a series of topics concerning sustainable food systems. In addition, each intern will focus on one of many potential projects, including:

1. Propagation: Held establish and manage a greenhouse to grow seedlings for the farm.
2. Field Management: Prepare and plant fields to start the crops growing.
3. Harvest: Oversee the harvest, post-harvest processing, and delivery of produce for the UF Pantry.
4. Outreach: Develop and conduct an engaging and fun social media and outreach campaign!
5. Compost: Help manage a variety of composting demonstrations, including vermicomposting.
6. LA Urban Farms: Work with industry partners to manage vertical grow towers around campus.

We require a commitment of about 10+ hours a week for the duration of the semester, so that we all get the most learning and productivity from the experience.
