Fall Internship-Market Research for Ag Software Company

Planting Profits™ is a new software company in the agribusiness space. We are looking for an upper-class or grad student for a p-t fall paid internship. Intern will gain knowledge and experience in market research, market analysis, strategy and product launch. Candidates should have a background/ interest in agriculture and be studying agribusiness, business, marketing or similar fields. 

Activities include:
· Perform market research: TAM, channels, etc.
· Assist in development of regional marketing materials and approach.
· Collect and identify relevant county ag statistics.
· Identify relevant trends and opportunities in the area.

Required knowledge, skills and capabilities include:
· Strong organizational abilities and follow-through.
· Good communication skills.
· Analysis and critical thinking.
· Basic knowledge of Excel, Word, etc.

The internship will run from September-December, 2016. The position will require about 4-6 hours per week. Hours are flexible. Pay $15/hr. Will be great experience and likely provide a great reference!

Two unique opportunities combining science and art

Insects Alive competition with the aim to bring together science, art and technology to foster a meaningful interdisciplinary creative experience for UF students. The final products of the competition, sculptures and animations inspired by real 3-D data from insects. There is no experiences necessary to participate, and we will be providing resources and workshops throughout the competition.
 
The first open workshop will be help November 30th 6pm-8pm, and you may RSVP at 321-987-6915 or agormaley@ufl.edu.
 
The workshop will include:
  • Demonstrations on how to manipulate 3D models
  • Information on how to successfully prepare a model for printing and how submit a file to be printed at the Marston Science Library
  • You will have also have time to experiment with one of our actual 3D ant models, and if you get stuck or confused we will be there to help you along the way!
Throughout the workshop the Insects Alive team will be answering any questions you may have!

HWCOE Peer Advisor applications are open

The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering is recruiting Peer Advisors for the coming year. The HWCOE Peer Advising Program was created by students, for students. Experienced engineering students are dedicated to helping new students navigate their first year of college and can provide information on classes, student organization, and how to make the most of their college experience. Peer Advisors represent all the engineering majors, and have a wide range of internship, research, and student organization experience.

In this course, students will gain understanding and general knowledge about the following topics:
  • Agronomics, production, and trading of cereal grains in the domestic and global markets
  • Technology of handling and production of cereal grains
  • Details of the preservation of qualities of the cereal grains and their basic structural components
  • The role of industry in providing the consumers with healthy grain-based foods
  • The Chemistry components of the cereal grains and their relationships to the nutritional benefits and needs of consumers
  • The complex reactions that relate to the stability and oxidation of the cereal grain-based foods

Scholarship program for packaging students-DEADLINE 12/2

Shurtape Technologies, a leading producer of pressure sensitive tapes, is looking for three packaging students to participate in its Mission: Packaging program. The program provides students the chance to expand on their educational foundation and receive $5,000 to put toward their educational expenses.

Students will be challenged with themed missions every month that will require them to explore real-world issues, problems, trends and strategies related to packaging and participate in conversations with industry experts. They will then report their findings via a blog post on Shurtape’s tape-education focused website, www.TapeUniversity.com. For each mission completed in a timely manner, each student will be rewarded with $500, with maximum compensation of $5,000.

SWS 4932_Nanotechnology_Application_in_Food_Agriculture_&_Environment_Spring_2017

Description: Nanotechnology is an emerging field of applied science that engages almost every technical discipline – from chemistry to agriculture – in the study and application of extremely tiny materials with particle sizes ranging from ~1-100 nm. This course will cover the fundamentals of nanoscience and nanotechnology from historical development, concepts and principles to nanomaterial manufacturing and property characterization, and the application of nanotechnology in food science, agriculture and environment. 
Objectives (This is a co-taught graduate/undergraduate course):
  • To learn the basic concepts, principles, and components of nanotechnology. At the end of the course all students will be able to describe basic theory of nanoscience and nanotechnology. 
  • To learn about the creation and characterization of nanomaterials. At the end of the course all students will be familiar with methods for characterizing important properties of nanomaterials commonly used in agriculture and the environment. 
  • To learn the application of nanotechnology in agriculture, food, and environment. At the end of the course all students will be able to apply nanotechnology to solve some problems in the fields of food, agriculture, and environment. 
  • To learn about toxicology of engineered nanoparticles (EPs) and current methods of assessment. At the end of the course all students will be able to understand potential impact of EPs and conduct simple environmental risk assessment.

Facility, Farm Equipment and Maintenance Supervisor

This hands-on supervisor is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all farm equipment and the seed plant, as well as the upkeep and maintenance of the facilities, office and housing complex at El Nino Farm. This incumbent manages a senior farm equipment mechanic.
