UF SSS federal grant funded TRIO program info sessions

The UF TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program located in the Office of Academic Support (OAS), will launch our Summer 2021 Recruitment Season during our first three Information Sessions to be held Thursday, June 3rd, Wednesday, June 9th, and Thursday, June 15th.

UF SSS is a federal grant funded TRIO program that provides first-generation, limited income, and/or students with a disability with staff and peer academic coaching, workshops (academic, financial, and wellness), resources for career and graduate school preparation, scholarships, tutoring, social and cultural events, technology resources, peer leadership opportunities, and more!

Please note that students who are interested in joining the UF SSS program are highly encouraged to apply as soon as possible, since we are limited in the number of students we can admit into the program at this time.

USDA Agricultural Outlook Forum-UG Sponsorships Available

USDA's Agricultural Outlook Forum provides producers, policymakers, business, government, and industry leaders with a unique opportunity to meet, exchange ideas, and discuss timely issues at the forefront of America's agriculture. In an effort to increase the present and future diversity participation at the Forum, USDA created a program providing sponsorship opportunities for junior and senior baccalaureate and graduate students to attend this annual event. The USDA Outlook Forum Future Leaders in Agriculture Program is designed to expose students to contemporary agribusiness, future trends, scientific research, and agricultural policy in today's real-world environment.

Learn more and apply by Nov. 21. Undergraduate students should be prepared to provide a 1-page essay on Agriculture as a Career. Graduate students should be prepared to provide a 2-page essay on The Greatest Challenge Facing Agriculture Over the Next 5 Years. All students will be asked to upload a copy of their resume or CV.

Field & Fork Graduate Assistantship

The Field & Fork Campus Food Program is excited to announce another funding opportunity! We’re offering a graduate assistantship to conduct research on sustainable agriculture and food systems at the Field & Fork Farm and Gardens. The graduate assistantship is for two years (Fall 2019 – Summer 2021) at the MS level, and includes a 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week) commitment to working with the farm. UF Summer Undergraduate International Research Program

UF students with a minimum of one year of UF research experience in any discipline and who will not graduate before December 2019 may apply for a summer international research award of up to $5000. Students must secure an international research position and then complete the SUIRP application process.

Applications materials are due Feb. 14, 2019.

Emerging Scholars Program

The Center for Undergraduate Research is pleased to announce the 2019 Emerging Scholars Program. In partnership with participating colleges, we will make 30 ESP awards. As described below, the program is designed to be a first time, early research experience.

Students Commit to:
2 semesters of research (Spring 2019 and Summer 2019/Fall 2019)
Poster Presentation
Research Paper
$1000 Stipend

Eligibility:
Freshman or Sophomore status only
NO previous research experience
Find Research Mentor to sponsor you
Mentor must be in one of the following colleges: Arts, CLAS, CALS, DCP, Education, HHP, The Florida Museum of Natural History, Medicine, PHHP, Pharmacy, Dentistry, VetMed

Google event - Queer Tech Voices summit

Queer Tech Voices
As part of Google's ongoing commitment to increase the visibility of underrepresented talent in engineering, we’re excited to announce that we’re hosting our first LGBTQ+ student summit called Queer Tech Voices taking place at Google LA in Venice, CA from November 2-4.

Queer Tech Voices is an all-expenses-paid summit for US-based LGBTQ+ tech students to convene for a weekend of knowledge sharing and relationship building. This summit will feature developmental workshops and stories facilitated by community leaders and Google employees that work to evolve our understanding of diversity, inclusion, and intersectionality.

All US-based university students excelling in computer science and passionate about LGBTQ+ visibility in tech are welcome to apply (see full eligibility criteria at g.co/queertechvoices). Students who are a member of a group that is historically underrepresented in tech are strongly encouraged to apply.

Acceptance to the 2018 Queer Tech Voices summit includes financial sponsorship for travel and accommodations. Sponsorship includes:
Round trip flight to Los Angeles, CA (from within the US or Canada)
Reimbursement for ground transportation to and from the airport and the hotel
Arranged hotel accommodations from November 2-4
All meals beginning with Friday night dinner to Sunday lunch
