These positions consist of hard work in all types of weather. We expect the employee to work 16 hours in a typical week. If experienced at all, we can pay $9.00/hr.

Housing with provided utilities is available at each unit, and a live-on employee is highly preferred. However, we will consider hiring a commuting employee.

Opportunity for Student Travel to Kyoto, Japan

JASSO (JApan Student Services Organization) is sponsoring an exchange between UF and Kyoto University (sometimes ranked one of the top two universities in all of Asia). About seven agricultural engineering students from Japan will visit the week of September 10th to 17th.

There is also money to help support the visit of up to four UF students to Kyoto for a week. The money is 80,000 yen per student (about $750) so it will not pay the whole expenses. But this would be a good start for what might be professionally and personally an informative and interesting trip. (Kyoto was the capital of Japan from 794 - 1868 and was the one place off-limits to bombers for cultural reasons during WWII, so it is the place to see in Japan.) The money has to be spent before October, so we would like to send the students before the Fall semester starts.

If you think you might be interested in this opportunity to travel, please contact ABE professors Reza Ehsani ( ehsani@ufl.edu ) or John Schueller ( schuejk@ufl.edu ) for more details.

Volunteer opportunity

Balance 180 Gymnastics & Sports Academy is a local non-profit organization that focuses on integrating children with varying abilities through sports. This summer we are running our third annual summer camp, and need volunteers that are excited to work with children with special needs!

Summer camp is a great learning experience for student volunteers and we would love to have pre-health students join us this year! All of our volunteers work 1-1 or 2-1 with the participating campers, in a wide range of activities including gymnastics time, crafts, and games. The athletes have a range of disabilities including Autism, Down Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and Cerebral Palsy among others.

Camp will be offered from July 11th to July 29th and will be held Monday – Friday from 8 AM – 12:30 PM. Volunteers do not need to commit to all dates, however, we do ask that volunteers sign up in advance for the days they are available.

We are so excited to be offering an inclusive camp again this summer for children in the Gainesville community, and we hope that some of your students may be able to share in this wonderful experience! We would appreciate your help with spreading the word on this opportunity. Students who are interested in volunteering can email us at balance180summercamp@gmail.com.
