Wetlands Club + AWRA joint meeting! "Status of the Everglades" Tues 4/1 @ 6 PM

The Wetlands Club and UF's Chapter of the American Water Resources Association are teaming up to present a special update on the status of the Everglades from Andy LoSchiavo with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Dr. Matt Cohen (School of Forest Resources and Conservation), and Dr. Peter Fredrick (Wildlife Ecology and Conservation). Agricultural Retailers Association Internship

The Agricultural Retailers Association is offering a summer internship program in its Washington, DC headquarters. Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, ARA represents the interests of agricultural retailers – suppliers to America’s farmers – before the Congress and federal agencies.

Packaging Engineer - Spectrum Print Communications

At Spectrum Print Communications, we're working to be a world-class packaging company whose entire focus is solving our customer’s challenges.  We are now looking for someone who has the tools to help us solve our customer’s challenges and grow our packaging division.

The Lead Packaging Engineer (LPE) will lead the development and continuous improvement of packaging designed to solve customer pain points, to ensure products arrive without being damaged, and to minimize packaging materials/waste and costs. As a subject matter expert, he/she will be also required to support estimating by working with them to create cost effective solutions that we can produce. The LPE is responsible for leading the successful implementation of multiple packaging initiatives and the development, design, validation and project management of packaging projects, including new packaging designs, packaging equipment and procurement lifecycle. Provide expertise and guidance in the various areas of packaging to the various internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strength in paperboard design, bias for action, have strong customer empathy, will think big, and embody a unique mix of artist and scientist. This candidate will have experience diving deep to gain customer insights, launching successful new products, and developing strong relationships with global internal stakeholders. The candidate will possess attention to detail, excellent communication skills, the ability to drive consensus across multiple stakeholders and be a great team player. The ability to work independently and deal with an ambiguous environment is a must.

2014 CenUSA Bioenergy Undergraduate Internship - still time to apply

Research Internship Experience for Undergraduates May 28 – August 2

The summer 2014 CenUSA Bioenergy Research Internship Experience for Undergraduates will provide rich interdisciplinary training and engagement opportunities for undergraduate students in all areas of the bioenergy value chain to meet the workforce challenges of the emerging bioeconomy.

The research internship program will enroll a class of 14 students, with all students spending the first five days in the program at the Iowa State University host site. While a portion of the  students will remain at Iowa State University, several of the students will then travel to one of CenUSA’s partner institutions (depending on their research interests) to complete their summer program at a partner lab. All students will maintain contact with the program through distance technologies for weekly meetings, seminars, and final presentations. Our research undergraduate interns will select from projects in the following areas:
  • Feedstock Development
  • Field-Level Sustainability
  • Logistics
  • Policy-Level Sustainability
  • Feedstock Conversion Economics
  • Markets and Distribution
  • Health and Safety

Selected undergraduate interns will gain practical research skills in computer modeling, field methods, and/or experimental design by conducting independent projects under the guidance of experienced faculty and research scientists. Other activities of our CenUSA Bioenergy Internship Program are designed for social, leadership, and professional development of the undergraduate participants. Students selected for the program will work on interdisciplinary teams with faculty, graduate students, post-docs, and in some cases industrial partners.

PROGRAM INCLUDES
  • Hands-on research in state-of-the-art facilities
  • Seminars, workshops, and field trips
  • Group social activities and closing poster session
  • Program Dates are May 28 – August 2

ELIGIBILITY
  • Undergraduate students majoring in science or engineering
  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
  • Minorities and women strongly encouraged to apply

AWARD
  • $4,500 stipend
  • Travel allowance
  • Room and board

The final application deadline is March 9. Selections will be based on a combination of research interests, academic qualifications, and faculty recommendations. All materials, including faculty recommendations must be received by March 15. All admission decisions will be made by late April.
