Summer Program Counselor Positions

 The University of Florida Center for Precollegiate Education and Training (UF CPET) is currently looking for friendly and competent Summer Counselors to join our team. If you are a compassionate and self-motivated individual with an interest in STEM education, we urge you to apply!


This year, all UF CPET summer programs will be delivered online. Most work in this position can be remote but may require some hours at the office to prepare for the program(s). All counselors are provided with training and professional staff support.

OPS Research Technician

A full time OPS research technician position is immediately open in the Urban Ecosystem Ecology Laboratory in the Soil and Water Sciences Department at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. This position is available through a funded research and extension project focused on the effects of different residential landscape management practices on nutrient and contaminant leaching in Alachua County, FL.

The open position is for a field and laboratory research technician to carry out field and laboratory components of this project. The successful applicant will be expected to carry out basic field and lab protocols, process incoming data streams, coordinate logistics with other members of the research team, and contribute positively to the broader Urban Ecosystem Ecology Lab. The chosen applicant will be expected to spend 40 hours/week in the lab and the position is funded for 12 months. Although the position will typically be expected to work regular Monday - Friday hours, the applicant may be required to spend some time in the lab over weekends during a specific component of the research. Regardless of workdays, the applicant will still only be expected to work 40 hours/week. Additional support for the research will be available from other members of the lab, collaborators, or potentially additional support.

Paid UG Research Assistants wanted for Summer 2021

The Resende lab is searching for highly motivated undergraduate research assistants to contribute to their summer field season. The assistants will aid in research characterizing many marketable traits, disease resistance and nitrogen use efficiency in sweet corn as well as making specific pollinations in the sweet corn materials present in the field. 

The position will be mostly in the field, so a high tolerance for exposure to sun, heat, high humidity and pollen is desirable. We would like someone that is available at least 30 hours/week with an expect pay of $12/hr. The work load will be heavy during the months of May and June and then begin to phase out starting in July. Temporary OPS position in nutrient and water management (Gainesville campus)

A full-time temporary OPS position is available at the University of Florida (Gainesville campus)
to study the effects of nutrient and water management in organic mixed vegetable production
systems. This OPS position will be split between the Sustainable Nutrient Management Systems
Lab (Dr. Maltais-Landry) in the Soil and Water Sciences Department and the Urban Water
Resources lab (Dr. Eban Bean) in the Agricultural & Biological Engineering Department.
This position will combine field research conducted at the UF Plant Science Research and
Education Unit (Citra) with field trials conducted on growers’ fields located in Alachua County.
This work will mainly focus on carbon and nutrient cycling in crops and soils, soil health, and
water management. The OPS will work in close collaboration with a postdoctoral research
associate and assist with field and lab work, in addition to data compilation and analysis.

Responsibilities:
• Assist with the implementation of field experiments at Citra and on growers’ fields;
• Conduct sample collection for soil, crop and water;
• Process experimental samples in the laboratory;
• Collect data and maintain field equipment;
• Compile data prior to interpretation and analysis.

Minimum qualifications:

• BS in biology, soil science, agricultural sciences (e.g., Agronomy, Horticulture) or related
engineering field (e.g., Agricultural, Biological, Ecological) at the beginning of employment;
• Prior experience in field and/or lab work in soil, crop and/or water sciences;
• Capacity to compile data using Microsoft Excel;
• Punctuality, attention to detail and capacity to work in hot and humid conditions;
• Must have a valid US driver’s license;
• Availability to work from May 2021 to December 2021.

Preferred qualifications: Prior experience in both field and lab work; capacity to conduct
preliminary data analysis in R; availability to work in this position until December 2022.
Advertised salary: $13/h to $15/h depending on experience
Start date: Between May 1 and May 30, 2021

The Reitz Scholar Program is a unique scholastic opportunity for UF students. University of Florida Students who will be enrolled as a UF student during the upcoming fall and spring semesters are eligible to apply. Applicants must maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher, be in good standing with the University (no pending or past conduct concerns), be able to demonstrate progress to timely graduation and be able to enroll in Reitz Scholars Course both semesters.

Undergraduate students are selected as “Reitz Scholars” each year. Emphasis is placed upon identifying students from a broad spectrum of university life, including academic, political, religious, recreational, and service organizations. Students selected to be “Reitz Scholars” receive educational enhancements and an intentional leadership program that requires extensive participation.
Note that this is not a scholarship program and scholarship funds will not be disbursed.

The students will participate in a themed learning community revolving around a designated topic and will enroll in a 1-credit course which meets weekly on Wednesdays during the academic year during 9th period (4:05 – 4:55 p.m.). Alachua Conservation Trust- Agricultural Conservation Specialist Position-Deadline to apply is 3/5/21

The Agricultural Conservation Specialist’s primary activity will be to increase technical assistance to landowners within Florida’s portion of the Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) 6 Suwannee Basin to accelerate the conveyance of the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s (NRCS) Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and Agricultural Conservation Easement Programs (ACEP).

The 3 areas of responsibility include:
  • Land Conservation & Farm Bill Program Enrollment
  • Outreach & Communications
  • Organizational Responsibilities & Development
This is a full-time position with secure grant funding for 2 full years
Starting salary range $44,000 to $50,000 based on experience.
