Undergraduate Research Symposium - Submissions due 3/15

Calling all Undergraduate Researchers!

The Undergraduate Research Symposium is a chance for students to present their research. All areas of research are accepted, and this is a great opportunity for students to present their summer work, such as research done at an REU, abroad, or at the University of Florida. Presenting at the symposium gives students valuable presentation experience, as well as a place to network and learn about research in a variety of fields.

Abstract, Poster, and Video submission are due by March 15 at 11:59 p.m. The virtual event will be held March 25, 2021 from 2 – 4 p.m. Visit their CUR website to learn more.

Center for Undergraduate Research Ambassadors ****Meet and Greet Aug 27; Applications due August 31

Welcome back, Gators! We are so excited to begin the 2019 Fall Semester and to welcome our new Ambassadors as our Ambassador application cycle enters its final weeks.

CUR Ambassadors serve as representatives of the Center for Undergraduate Research and as leaders to the UF student body through various leadership roles on campus. We encourage students from all backgrounds and of all research interests to apply! To learn more about the CUR Ambassador Program, please consider attending our CUR Ambassador Application Meet & Greet. The Meet & Greet will be held in HPNP 1404 from 5-8pm. The event will be organized into two sessions: one beginning at 5:00 and the second one beinning at 6:30.

This is Undergraduate Research Week 2019! Events 4/8-4/12

Students, this is the time to learn about CUR... the Center for Undergraduate Research. This is a great way to learn about how to get involved and why UG Research can benefit all students.

This week, UF is celebrating Undergraduate Research Week! The Center for Undergraduate Research is hosting events all week with each college to celebrate and recognize research and opportunities here at UF. I have attached our save-the-date, and flyers for events happening each day. All the events can be viewed on our calendar at https://www.cur.aa.ufl.edu/undergraduate-research-week/ as well.

The two events the College of Engineering is hosting are lab tours for the Digital Worlds Institute - Realities Lab, and the Nanoscale Research Facility. If possible, please share about Undergraduate Research Week as you see fit! This is the first year UF is observing Research Week, so we want to show support to all colleges hosting events.

Undergraduate Research Expo - 9/24 - Rion Ballroom

Students, be sure to attend the 2018 Research Expo on Monday, September 24, 2018 from 5 – 7 pm in the Rion Ballroom in the Reitz Union. The link to the event is here: https://cur.aa.ufl.edu/events/research-expo/

The Undergraduate Research Expo is an annual exposition of research conducted by faculty members at the University of Florida. It is organized by the Center for Undergraduate Research Board of Students (CURBS) in conjunction with the UF Student Government (SG). The purpose of this event is to provide the opportunity for undergraduate students to:

1. Become aware of and interested in research at the University of Florida
2. Meet and network with prominent research faculty members at UF
3. Be introduced to the diversity of research conducted at UF
4. Provide possible recruitment opportunities for undergraduate researchers.

NIMET: Financial Support for UF Students to Participate NanoFlorida 2018 (Oct 6-7) - Abstracts Due Sept 5th

NIMET is proud to sponsor the NanoFlorida 2018 Conference, which is scheduled to take place the weekend of October 6-7 at Florida Institute of Technology. Students and faculty involved in nanotechnology research from across the state will gather to discuss and share their latest results.

Industrial sponsors will also be on hand to meet students and discuss their career opportunities in nanotechnology.

Also, for the first time there will be a pre-conference Nanotechnology Career Expo on October 5th.

This year NIMET and the National Science Foundation (NSF) have teamed up to provide financial support for UF students and postdocs to participate in NanoFlorida 2018.

Important Dates and Information:

• All UF students must submit abstracts and register by September 7th (submission page)
• Earlier submission will increase your chances of getting free registration
• NIMET will cover the cost of group transportation, one night in a to-be-determined hotel near the venue, and poster printing.
• NSF will cover the registration costs for the first 200 student/postdoc attendees.
• To be considered for NIMET sponsorship, all students must:
• Fill out the NIMET Sponsorship Request Form
• Email the completed form to the NIMET Director and NIMET Admin (see form for details) by September 5th
• Note: Earlier submission is better to insure you get free registration
• Submit an abstract using the conference abstract submission page

ABE 3MT + Video Event

Undergraduates...are you involved in research? If so, practice your 'elevator speech' at the ABE 3-minute thesis event or show it off in a 2-minute video. This is a great way to prepare for presentations in graduate school. (Sorry, the only prize for undergraduates is applause!).

First Annual Undergraduate Research EXPO

The Center for Undergraduate Research is very pleased to announce that, in collaboration with Student Government, we will be co-hosting the First Annual Undergraduate Research EXPO.

WHEN: Tuesday Oct. 24th, 2017

WHERE: Rion Ballroom, Reitz Union

WHY: The goal of the EXPO is to provide a forum for undergraduates of all disciplines to meet and talk with faculty about undergraduate research. This is to expose them to the wide variety of research questions being explored on our campus, give them a chance to introduce themselves to faculty, and to encourage them to include undergraduate research in their college career.

Student Government has graciously agreed to provide light refreshments during the evening.

Microbiology and Cell Science Undergraduate Research Symposium Friday, April 21st

We are pleased to announce that the Department of Microbiology & Cell Science will be hosting its Seventh Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Friday April 21st, 2017 8 AM – 1:30 PM, in the Microbiology & Cell Science building (Bldg. 981 Museum Road). Undergraduate researchers are highly encouraged to submit an abstract of their research for presentation at the symposium. We welcome science at all levels of development.

Showcase your work! Interact with colleagues!

Outstanding abstracts from selected undergraduates will be chosen for oral presentations, and the remaining will be presented in poster format. Abstracts are due no later than April 13th, 2017.
