LifeSouth Blood Drive-Beat Tennessee!

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is excited about the upcoming “What Colors Do You Bleed” blood drive that will be taking place September 10th-14th. This is the annual competition between the University of Florida and the University of Tennessee to see which school can donate the most blood, and UF has not won since 2008! There will be blood mobiles all over campus, and this is a great opportunity to help out the Gainesville community. We hope that you can spread the word to donate and save lives!

FSHN MasterChef Competition

Are you creative in the kitchen? Can you demonstrate your superb cooking skills under pressure? Tell us WHY you deserve the FSHN MasterChef title – and then prove it! Create a 30 to 60 second video, sharing why you should be the first FSHN MasterChef. Submit your video to fshnadvising@ifas.ufl.edu by 11:59 PM on Thursday, September 6th. If selected, you will compete in the first FSHN MasterChef competition on Thursday, September 13th from 2 PM – 5 PM in the FSN Building (Pilot Plant). Food Week (September 10-September 14)

Florida Engineering Society 1st GBM

The UF Florida Engineering Society Student Chapter is excited to announce their first GBM of the Fall 2018 semester! This will be taking place on Thursday August 30th at 6:15 PM, in Weil Hall 234.

The Florida Engineering Society is the only society which represents licensed professional engineers in the State of Florida. The University of Florida Student Chapter seeks to foster unity among the various engineering disciplines and strives to meet the needs of all engineering students. This includes our initiative to bring students to all types of engineering work environments in all different engineering fields. All engineering students are invited to become members of FES and to participate in society activities.

At this meeting we will be discussing various opportunities and events taking place this semester, as well as providing some delicious food while you come out and learn more about us! NIMET: Financial Support for UF Students to Participate NanoFlorida 2018 (Oct 6-7) - Abstracts Due Sept 5th

NIMET is proud to sponsor the NanoFlorida 2018 Conference, which is scheduled to take place the weekend of October 6-7 at Florida Institute of Technology. Students and faculty involved in nanotechnology research from across the state will gather to discuss and share their latest results.

Industrial sponsors will also be on hand to meet students and discuss their career opportunities in nanotechnology.

Also, for the first time there will be a pre-conference Nanotechnology Career Expo on October 5th.

This year NIMET and the National Science Foundation (NSF) have teamed up to provide financial support for UF students and postdocs to participate in NanoFlorida 2018.

Important Dates and Information:

• All UF students must submit abstracts and register by September 7th (submission page)
• Earlier submission will increase your chances of getting free registration
• NIMET will cover the cost of group transportation, one night in a to-be-determined hotel near the venue, and poster printing.
• NSF will cover the registration costs for the first 200 student/postdoc attendees.
• To be considered for NIMET sponsorship, all students must:
• Fill out the NIMET Sponsorship Request Form
• Email the completed form to the NIMET Director and NIMET Admin (see form for details) by September 5th
• Note: Earlier submission is better to insure you get free registration
• Submit an abstract using the conference abstract submission page
