Process Description:

Willie’s Wheat grass is concerned with natural farming.  Learn how Willie’s Wheat Grass produces wheat grass and other crops on a weekly basis.    Here on our farm located just outside of Okeechobee we have 4 types of internship learning opportunities available.

The First Internship opportunity is to learn and participate in a greenhouse operation and production of Wheatgrass and MicroGreens sold on a wholesale level to Health Food retail locations. This is a fast paced manual labor operation with weekly harvests.  Each week, the manual process begins of soaking seeds, sowing and processing.  This will require shoveling of soil, carrying trays/cleaning, planting, soaking seeds, cleaning and maintaining processing rooms and greenhouse, harvesting and prepping product for delivery.

The Second Internship opportunity is to learn and participate in a wholesale nursery of edible plants.  This position requires heavy lifting, shoveling, planting, weeding, possibly construction of new shadehouses, maintaining existing shadehouses, prepping plants for deliveries.

The Third Internship opportunity is to learn field growing of specialty peppers.  This position requires planting, harvesting, prepping peppers for shipping.  The peppers grown are extremely hot and the intern would be required to wear protective clothing in the harvesting and processing of the peppers.

The Fourth Internship opportunity is to work hands on in animal husbandry.   We have many hands on opportunities with this from small ruminants, poultry, game birds, swine, and rabbits.  This would include full caretaking of animals including but not limited to cleaning pens, mending fences, feeding, etc.

Tools used include shovels, hoes, shears, and knives, hammers, saws etc.

Anyone allergic to animals or wheat or peppers or other produce should not apply.  Must be willing and able to do physical labor as this is a manual farm.
