Open Engineering Position at SFWMD Okeechobee Service Center

This position is responsible for ensuring compliance of the technical engineering aspects of Environmental Resource Permits (ERP) and/or Surface Water Management (SWM) permits from construction commencement through construction completion certification.

Duties include resolution of non-compliance issues either during construction or at time of construction completion certification, successful resolution of public inquiries from the regulated community for both permitted and un-permitted projects and involvement with special assignments and enforcement cases.

Work is performed in a teamwork-based and deadline-oriented environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Candidates must be willing and able to conduct field work in a variety of rigorous field conditions, including in remote and heavily vegetated areas, and able to lift 40 pounds. Field work often includes on and off-road vehicular travel and helicopter surveillance.

Candidates must be able to exercise independent judgment to the degree appropriate for the situation. The incumbent will become proficient in a variety of post-permit compliance duties as well as all related regulatory processes; and will demonstrate the ability to skillfully prepare any required correspondence. Incumbent must be proficient in utilizing maps, reading construction plans and specifications. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with other engineering professionals, environmental scientists, attorneys, construction professionals, developers, agriculturists, members of the public and with others involved with the District's regulatory program.
