Unpaid Internships - St. Johns Water Management District

The St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) is offering the Unpaid Internships described below for the Spring 2014 term. Internships will start January 13, 2014 and end on April 18, 2014 . Students will be assigned to a mentor who will provide training and instruction.

Bureau: Environmental Resource Regulation -Location: Maitland

Job Summary: The selected student will assist staff engineers with review of permit applications and compliance activities. The internship will include work with hydrology and hydraulics principles, storm water management systems, and design documents related to permit applications. Preferred grade level: Undergraduate Junior or Senior or Graduate

Job Summary: The selected student will assist the Mitigation Banking Technical Program Manager with site inspections for general compliance purposes, management of credit ledgers, cost estimate updates, database and spreadsheet work and literature reviews

Job Summary: The selected student will assist in the review of Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) Applications for consistency with District environmental criteria to include assistance with assessment of environmental impacts on wetlands and surface waters, evaluation of wetland conditions, compliance activities and desktop and field analysis of ERP Application and compliance activities.

Job Summary: The Indian River Lagoon Algal Bloom Investigation Plan includes a comprehensive analyses of all seagrass and water quality data. As part of these analyses, staff will be evaluating and combining data sets to improve Lagoon-wide estimations of seagrass and macroalgae by comparing various geospatial data sets with groundtruthed field data. The selected student will assist Estuaries Program staff scientists with data sets and help integrate them into GIS.

Job Summary: There are three years of quarterly reports on the City of Sanford’s sprayfield for reclaimed water with a legacy sludge layer located on the shore of Lake Jesup-an impaired water with an established Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL0 and Basin Management Action Plan (BMAP). This sprayfield is an understudied input to the nutrient issues in Lake Jessup. Statistical analysis of ambient grabs from holding ponds, groundwater samples and storm water sampling is important to completion of the watershed load modeling for the Jesup PLRG through development of an event mean concentration analysis completed.
