Works with: Co-stewards, livestock / grounds managers, pollinator system manager

Start: Approximately February 2021
Pay: $50,000 per year

The Farm Manager will play a critical role around three areas:

• They will help to roll out a full regenerative farming system throughout the 105 farm.
• They will co-lead the build out of three test plots—each serving a different purpose, and together contributing to bountiful food production throughout the farm.
• They will play a vital role in developing replicable blueprints that neighboring conventional farmers in this bioregion could apply to their own land.

Bee and Crop Pollination Research

The Mallinger lab is seeking to fill a part-time temp position for pollinator research project for the 2021 blueberry season.

We seek field and laboratory assistant to help in research project investigating techniques to improve pollinator habitat in blueberries. The majority of the work will be fieldwork, but these positions will also include laboratory work for sample processing, data entry, etc. Daily tasks may include: travel to field sites in university vehicle (travel time is paid), visual pollinator observations, pollination experiments, honey bee hive inspections, data entry, and measuring fruit yields.

Required Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in biology, entomology, botany, plant science, field ecology or related fields preferred but not required
Valid U.S. driver’s license
Ability to work outside for long periods of time in a variety of weather conditions
Attention to detail and protocols
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Not allergic to bees or ants
Ok working around bees and ants

Desired Skills:
• Insect identification in Hymenoptera or desired to learn
• Beekeeping
• Lifting equipment up to 40 pounds
• Pollen identification
• Communication skills and outreach education

Job Details:
Employment period: January 27 – April 9, 2021, with potential for earlier start and later end dates, depending on project needs

Part - time: 20 hours/week
Starting salary: $11.00/hour

Additionally, all research staff, including field techs, should be familiar with UF policies related to COVID-19. These include mask-wearing, physical distancing, and no eating or drinking while inside the research lab and vehicles. Face masks will be made available to all employees.

Additionally, only one research is allow per room to further enable safe interactions, and workflows have been adapted to ensure physical distancing guidelines can be followed during all shifts.

Irrigation Technician Wanted - Collier Soil and Water Conservation District

The Collier Soil and Water Conservation District (CSWCD) is now accepting applications to fill the fulltime position of TECHNICIAN with the MOBILE IRRIGATION LABORATORY (MIL) at its North Fort Myers office in Florida.

This position services 5 counties (Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades) and is responsible for assisting the MIL Team Leader on evaluating and reporting on a variety of agricultural irrigation systems. Office work and frequent daily outdoors agricultural irrigation system fieldwork is typical, including same day travel from and to the MIL office.

REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants should have practical knowledge of irrigation systems, and the ability to assist the MIL Team Leader in writing reports and doing field data collection and entry on those irrigation systems. High school diploma required. Technical or Vocational School training or experience in agriculture or related field is desirable. Must be proficient with computer skills including knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook programs.

Prospective candidate will be expected to enjoy communicating with agricultural growers and the public and be able to write effectively and take direction from the MIL Team Leader.

Valid Florida driver’s license required.

Starting annual salary is $32,000 with benefits.

NC State - PhD positions - Ag Data Science

We are recruiting for three PhD fellowships focused on agricultural data science:

1) one in Biological and Agricultural Engineering (advised by Dr. Daniela Jones),
2) one in Electrical and Computer Engineering (advised by Dr. Mike Kudenov), and 

3) one in Geospatial Analytics (advised by Dr. Natalie Nelson).
